Sea Cow Head Lighthouse
This Lighthouse was used in the opening scenes of many of the Road to Avonlea episodes. It is also what Gus Pike's
Lighthouse was modeled after. The one that we see most often in the series is a replica that was built on set in Uxbridge, Ontario.
Sea Cow Head Lighthouse, located in Fernwood was built in 1864. This 70 foot octagonal lighthouse is one of the oldest wood frame towers standing in the Maritimes. It was automated in 1959. The tower was moved in 1979.
To get to the lighthouse, follow the Blue Heron Drive between Bedeque and Borden-Carleton. Turn off on Route 119 to Fernwood, and by the time you reach the "T" in the road you should have spotted the lighthouse. Follow the road down to it.
You can get a wonderful view
of the Confederation Bridge from this area.MAP
Orwell Corner Historic Village

Orwell Corner Historic Village opened in July of 1973. Orwell was named in 1769 by Surveyor General Captain Samuel Holland in honour of Lord Francis Orwell, British Minister of Plantations. Much of the early settlement took place at Orwell Cove and as fields were cleared and roads improved settlement moved inland. The small crossroads community was founded in the early nineteenth century by Scots that arrived on the Island with the Glenaladale Settlers brought out by Captain John MacDonald, as well as families that came from the Isle of Skye, County Monaghan in Ireland and United Empire Loyalists. Many of the current residents in the Orwell community are descendants of these early pioneers. Orwell Corner Historic Village is located just off of the TransCanada Highway( Rte 1) midway between Charlottetown and the Northumberland Ferries Terminal at Wood Islands.
North Rustico This small Prince Edward Island town can be seen in the episode Old Lady Lloyd as the backdrop in the very beginning
of the episode when the King family is on the carriage, just prior to driving by old lady Lloyd's front gate.
