Birth Date : 1949Maja Ardal was born in Siglufjordur in the north of Iceland in 1949. She received her education in Edinburgh Scotland, and studied drama at the Royal Scottish Academy in Glasgow. She came to Canada in 1970 and acted with Toronto Workshop Productions in 10 plays. Maja wrote the book for the musical Joy with composer Joey Miller. It was produced at the Workman Theatre in October 2000.
Maja Ardal is a director, playwright, actor, and former Artistic Director of Young People's Theatre (now the Lorraine Kimsa Theatre). Her play, Midnight Sun, which she directed, was co-produced by Tarragon Theatre, the National Arts Centre, and Gloucester Theatre Massachusetts. A translation of Midnight Sun was produced in Akureyri Iceland in the spring of 2001. She directed at The Shaw Festival, The Grand Theatre in London, Alberta Theatre Projects, and The Great Canadian Theatre Company. Her production of Whale at the YPT received the Dora Award for Outstanding Production.
